Kenya Nuclear Electricity Board Gets Acting CEO

Nairobi — Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter has appointed Eng. Collins Juma, acting CEO of the Kenya Nuclear Electricity Board (KNEB).

Juma replaces Ochillo Ayacko who has been the Executive Chairman and CEO and whose term expired on December 2015.

The appointment in a letter dated January 4, 2016 is effective from December 22, 2015.

Juma has been serving as Director, Technical Affairs at KNEB for the past four years.

He has worked in the energy sector for over 20 years, including stints at Kenya Power and Kenya Electricity Generating Company.

The Kenya Nuclear Electricity Board was set up in 2012 to expedite the development of nuclear electricity generation.

Kenya plans to set up a first nuclear power plant with a capacity of 1000Megawatts (MW) by 2025.

This is expected to rise to a total of 4000MW by 2033 making nuclear electricity a key component of the country's energy mix which is projected will be about 19,000MW in total.

The country currently has an installed capacity of 2298MW.
