Climate change and conservation of natural resources have taken centre stage in the global development dialogue. We are glad that The Gambia is an active player in these forums. But our representatives on these platforms and principal players in related sectors back home should always remember that The Gambia has been way ahead of the curve in matters relating to environmental concerns.

From the genesis of the Banjul Declaration decades ago to recent days, our country has always had that respect and concern for a healthy environment. Therefore, we need to take our cue from the country's leadership and make sure that all efforts in this area are built on sustainable, domestic-driven policy and resource bases.
