Uganda: Tips to Improve Feeding Your Infant

For most mothers, it is obvious that an infant should be breastfed to stimulate development of their babies. What is not obvious though is what kind of foods they should be fed on once they cross the five months mark. At this age, a baby will begin to express the desire to taste what you are eating. He or she will open her mouth as they watch your hands taking food to your mouth.

Stella Namukwaya, a mother, feeds her baby on whatever she happens to be eating at the time. "I mash the food with my fingers on the side of my plate and feed my daughter. I feed her on all kinds of food - matooke, Irish and sweet potatoes, or even cassava." On the other hand, Noella Bagona, prepares a special meal for her five-months-old baby.
