Tanzania: Tarime Continues Battle Against Cholera

Tarime — One person is reported dead and two others admitted with cholera Tarime District in Mara Region .

While addressing the media, community leader Athuman Akalama said that the three patients were referred to the Nyamongo health centre on January 17.

" Preliminary investigations conducted by doctors at the hospital caused them to believe that the patients were suffering from a different ailment but after several more tests they were found to be suffering from cholera," he said.

On January 18 a patient named Frederick Emmanuel ( 38) died. Mr Akalama said they have started a special unit at the hospital dedicated to diagnosing and treating cholera patients and to educate the community about how to protect themselves agains contamination.
