Africa: RSF Demands Release of Journalists Detained in Egypt

As the Egyptian judicial authorities prepare to begin two major trials involving journalists in the next three days, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) reiterates its call for the immediate and unconditional release of these journalists, who are being held simply for doing their job.

The trial of Mahmoud Abu Zeid, a photojournalist also known as Shawkan, is due to start tomorrow after being postponed in December. He is being tried along with more than 700 other defendants, many of them alleged members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood.
