South Africa: Free State Woman Found Buried Alive

A Free State woman, who was found buried alive in a shallow grave, is currently recovering in hospital, police said on Wednesday.

On Sunday morning, the community found the woman badly beaten and with stones on top of her at a village in Mabolela, in QwaQwa in the Free State, police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring said.

"The woman was last seen on Saturday evening, leaving with an unknown man at a tavern. It is not yet known what exactly happened and reason for her bad assault," said Mophiring.

A case of attempted murder was being investigated.

No arrests had been made yet.
