Algeria: Eight Smugglers Arrested, Weapons Recovered in South of the Country

Algiers — Eight (08) smugglers were arrested and weapons were recovered Tuesday, in the South of the country, by detachments of the People's National Army (ANP), said Wednesday, the Ministry of National Defence in a communiqué.

"As part of securing borders and the fight against smuggling and organized crime, detachments coming under the operational sectors of Bordj Badji Mokhtar and Ain Guezzam (6th military region) intercepted, on 9 February 2016, eight (08) smugglers in possession of a Kalashnikov-type machine gun and a quantity of munitions, thirteen illegal immigrants, one truck, three (03) all-terrain vehicles, three (03) motorcycles, three (03) metal detectors, eight (08) hardware items, 2.21 tons of foodstuffs, 1030 litres of fuel and mobile phones," added the source.
