Egypt, Switzerland Discuss Cooperation, Restoring Cairo's Smuggled Funds

Speaker of Egypt's House of Representatives Ali Abdel Aal, currently in Bern, met on Monday15/2/2016 President of the Swiss National Council Christa Markwalder.

The two sides discussed means of bolstering cooperation and bilateral ties.

They also tackled a number of issues, mainly empowering women and youth, laying the foundations of democracy, establishing the rule of law, and cooperating in fighting terrorism.

Abdel Aal urged cooperation between Egypt and Switzerland to restore Cairo's funds smuggled abroad, a request that was welcomed by the Swiss side.

"Switzerland is waiting for final court rulings to make sure that these funds were transferred illegally," Markwalder said.

Meanwhile, Egypt's Ambassador to Switzerland Saher Hamza, in statements to MENA, described the meeting between the two parliament speakers as positive.
