Sudan's 2016 budget allocates a disproportionately large amount for defense spending that could comprise more than half the total budget.
During a speech before Sudan's Air Fore headquarters in December, President Omar Bashir dismissed criticism of the high share of the budget allocated to security, claiming it stills falls short of needs. "If 100% of the state's budget was allocated to the army to secure the country then that is still not enough," he was quoted in news reports.
