THEME: "Civic engagement and Women's Political Participation"

What: The African Union Commission (AUC) in collaboration with the United States Mission to the African Union (USAU) will hold a discussion on Civic Engagement and Women's Political Participation in honor of U.S Black history month and of AU's Project 2016

When: Thursday 25th February 2016

Time: 16:00hrs-18:00hrs

Where: Small Conference Room 4, Third Floor, African Union Headquarters, New Conference Building, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Who: The African Union Commission (AUC) and the United States Mission to the African Union (USAU)

Participants: Ms. Patrisse Cullors, co-founder of Black Lives Matter Movement,

Amb. Salah Hammad, Project 2016, Human Rights Expert, AUC Political Affairs Department

Mrs. Victoria Maloka, Head of Coordination and Outreach Division, AUC Women and Gender Directorate

Ms. Kesaobaka Pharatlhatlhe, AUC Economic Affairs Department

Objective: To provide a platform to share experiences regarding Human Rights issues and the role of women in politics in the US and Africa in line with AU's year of Human Rights with a focus on Women's Rights and of US's annual Black History Month

Background: Black History Month (BHM) is the opportunity for the AU to develop bonds and draw connections between African American's civic engagement and social issues and African very same issues.

Journalists are invited to cover and participate in the discussion Thursday 25th February 2016.
