Somalia: Roadside Blast Targets Defense Minister's Convoy in Kismayo

A land-mine blast struck a military escorting convoy carrying Somali defense minister Gen Abdulkadir Sheikh Ali Dini near the airport of Kismayo town, reports said on Thursday.

Somali defense minister escaped unhurt in the bomb explosion, according to witnesses. No group has taken credit for the IED attack on the minister's motorcade.

On the other hand, Shire Abdi Mohamed who is member of Jubbaland state assembly, told Radio Shabelle that the minister has arrived in the city to attend a reconciliation conference.

The casualty figures of the blast is yet unclear.
