South Africa: Man Killed in Marienhill House Collapse

A man was killed when his house collapsed on him in the Sunshine area near Marienhill on Saturday morning, said KwaZulu-Natal paramedics.

A 32-year-old woman, believed to be the man's wife, sustained serious injuries in the incident, said KZN EMS spokesperson, Robert Mckenzie.

"Paramedics and firefighters were called on to the scene and it took about 15 minutes for them to locate the [deceased] victim as they searched through the rubble," said Mckenzie.

The woman was treated on scene before being transported to hospital.

The brick and mortar house collapsed at around 05:00 following some heavy rain in the area.

"There is no surety that the rain contributed to the collapse," Mckenzie said.
