The amendment to the Standing Orders regarding media-related activities within the precincts of Parliament is the latest assault on the freedom and independence of the media.

If the proposals by the joint Parliamentary Committee on Broadcasting and Library are adopted, all requests to conduct media activity will now be exclusively channelled through the Speaker of the Senate or National Assembly.
