The President of the Islamic Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, Babili Mansa and Her Excellency the First Lady, Madam Zineb Yahya Jammeh have been honoured with a prestigious award by the Solidarity of African Women for Development USA-SFADU in recognition of their support to women and children.

The Office of the President wishes to inform the general public that The Solidarity of African Women for Development USA-SFADU, a non-governmental organisation registered in Albany, the Capital city of New York State in USA, has decorated His Excellency The President of the Islamic Republic of The Gambia, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh Babili Mansa with the Organisation's 2016 award in recognition and commendation of His Excellency's laudable Presidential declaration banning Female Genital Mutilation in The Gambia followed by the National Assembly's amendment of the Women's Act to reflect this positive development. A similar award was extended to Her Excellency the First Lady, Madam Zineb Yahya Jammeh in recognition of her consistent support to women and children. Both awards were received by His Excellency The Gambia's Permanent Representative to the UN Mr Momodou Tangara during the annual evening Gala of the organisation on 26th March 2016 Organised to celebrate International Women's Day.
The organisation SFADU is a women's organisation which takes pride in receiving and enjoying the support of men. Its aim is to gather African Women of goodwill, of all African languages, religions, cultures and ethnic groups and beyond. It currently has women membership in 18 African countries.
SFADU's objectives include to work for the advancement of women of African origin in the USA, their integration into American society and to contribute to the empowerment, wellbeing, dignity and human rights of African Women living in the African continent. In pursuit of these objectives SFADU recognises and honours leaders like His Excellency the President and Her Excellency The First Lady who distinguish themselves by their dedication and untiring charitable action to the benefit of women and children.
