South Africa: Minister Mbalula's Decision On Transformation in Sports

press release

The IFP welcomes the decision by Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula in dealing with transformation in South African sport today. Transformation in sport has been a contentious issue for many years now and there have been many debates and discussions surrounding this very important and necessary process, importantly how best to go about achieving the transformation of our various sporting codes. The manner in which this issue has, however been dealt with by the relevant sporting administrators, authorities and organisations has on occasion been worrying.

We, as the IFP, have always maintained that transformation in sport is non-negotiable and must take place. In 22 years this is the first time real action been taken in order to see transformation in sports takes place. We are of the firm belief that a policy must be set, in order to determine how the minister performs in his duties in seeing transformation happen in an effective manner.
