South Africa: Kwamashu and Umlazi Glebelands Hostels Raided Again

On Friday from 10:00 to 22:00, a cross cluster multi-disciplinary operation was conducted by various SAPS Units including the National Intervention Unit, Public Order Police, K9 Unit, Durban Metro Police and Airwing aimed at crime prevention, searching for wanted suspects, raiding of illegal shebeens and maintaining peace at both KwaMashu and Umlazi Glebelands hostels.

The operation started at KwaMashu where police saturated the entire hostel looking for any illegal activities in the area while the police helicopter hovered above to ensure that the operation is conducted safely. During the tour of operation, police arrested four suspects, three were arrested for dealing in liquor and the other for possession of dagga. Three shebeens were closed down at the KwaMashu hostel and liquor, dagga as well as a number of dangerous weapons were seized by police during the operation. A total of 17 people were charged for various offences in terms of the roadway traffic act.
