Tanzania: Man Arrested for Raping Student

POLICE in Ruvuma Region have arrested a man, Justine Ambrose (30), suspected to have raped a 14-year-old student of Mbinga Girls Secondary School. Ruvuma Regional Police Commander (RPC), Zubery Mwombeji, said the suspect committed the offence on July 2 at Kitai village.

"The victim is a resident of Ngingama village in Nyasa District. Ambrose is a revenue collector of the Mbinga District Council at the Kitai gate," Mwombeji said. The suspect is reported to have attacked the girl at night at a bus stop when she was waiting for transport to Songea town.

According to Mwombeji, the suspect forced the girl to enter into a hut belonging to security guards and raped her as she tried to shout for help.

"The victim is undergoing treatment at the Mbinga District Hospital.

"The suspect will appear in court after completion of investigations," the regional police chief said.
