Namibia: Every Bank Wants in On Harambee Targets

FNB Public Sector Banking (PSB) recently attended the Association for Local Authorities in Namibia (ALAN) Congress in Oshakati which was held under the theme 'Shaping the future of Namibia with the people towards Eradication of Poverty for Sustainable Economic Development'. FNB Public Sector Banking supported the Congress with an amount of N$50 000 as well as in-kind donations. Head of PSB Leslie Puriza gave a presentation on a 'Value Proposition on Funding for Servicing of Land' which attracted a lot of attention. Leslie advised "We are involved in this to contribute towards the delivery of affordable land to our people. This contribution is a token of our participation in achieving the GRN objectives in terms of Vision 2030 and the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP)." He added that FNB's market share was quite substantial in terms of the Municipalities and Town Councils in Namibia who bank with FNB Namibia.

"Our market share is more than 80% of the main municipalities and town councils and for us it is important to give as much support as possible towards these valued clients of ours. We believe that municipalities have a key role to play in Namibia's social and economic development thereby ensuring that all citizens receive basic services." The congress was attended by 90% of the local authorities (Town Councils & Municipalities) including the Mayors, CEO and Chairperson of the Management committee as well as the Finance Managers. The congress brought together various stakeholders to deliberate on policy, legislative and developmental issues affecting the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery at local level in Namibia. The congress also served as a platform for networking and sharing of best practices while promoting partnerships between interlinking sectors.
