An internal army inquiry has blamed greed of senior officers for last year's al-Shabaab attack that killed 19 UPDF soldiers in Somalia and injured 22.
The raid in question occurred on September 1, 2015, when al-Shabaab militants overran Battle Group BG 16. But while the under-strength Ugandan troops are praised for putting up a brave fight against al-Shabaab, the report implies that more such incidents may happen, because selfish interests pervade the army, including at the stage of deciding who gets deployed to Somalia.
