Uganda: Drug Shortage Hits Jinja Mental Hospital

Jinja — Mental health patients in Busoga sub-region are succumbing to self-inflicted injury following a prolonged shortage of drugs used for treatment of mental illnesses.

According to the district mental health in charge, Dr Emmanuel Mufumba, for nearly nine months now, mentally ill patients have not been getting some of their crucial prescription. As a result, they are more depressed, with many becoming excessively violent to an extent of causing serious bodily injury even to themselves.
