Technology will continue to evolve. Data centre infrastructure, operations and management is evolving along with the changing roles of IT professionals. In view of this, banks need to plan for emerging technologies in data centres, in order to adapt to changing needs.
Almost all banks in Ethiopia have their own data centres for running Core Banking Systems (CBS), as well as other mission critical applications to support their businesses. The infrastructure for these data centres depends on traditional, proprietary and purpose built hardware in the most part. In a legacy data centre, scaling-out is expensive due to the proprietary nature of each individual piece of hardware. Besides, older infrastructure is less secure and vulnerable to increasingly sophisticated attacks.
