Zimbabwe: High Court Clears Jailed Headmaster of Theft

THE High Court has quashed the conviction and sentence of a Mberengwa deputy headmaster who was jailed for allegedly faking a robbery and stealing $6 890 in examination fees.A Zvishavane magistrate convicted Thomas Zhou of theft in 2012 and sentenced him to 12 months in jail of which six months were suspended on condition of good behaviour while the remaining six months were set aside on condition that he restituted the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

The ruling by Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Maxwell Takuva follows an appeal by Zhou challenging his conviction and sentence. The judge said the lower court was misdirected in its ruling.
