Uganda: Rakai Residents Grapple With Water Scarcity Problem Despite Abundant Water Bodies

George Mutesasira a resident of Kyamakanaga Village, in Kagamba sub county Rakai district spends more than Shs3,000 per day on water for his family. This means he spends about Shs90,000 a month, and this is only for the basic chores.

He cannot irrigate his vegetable garden and maize plantation since it would require him to spend Shs50, 000 to buy more than 50 jerricans of water daily. On the days he is unable to buy, Mutesasira treks 7km to fetch water from the nearby village.
