Somalia: Al Shabaab Clashes With Local Militia in Somalia

A heavy fighting broke out between Al Shabaab militants and local armed militiamen in Somalia's southern Lower Shabelle province on Tuesday. Tuesday's battle took place at KM-50 and Barire areas in the region, where has been the scene of recurrent confrontations over the past months, sources said.

Reports said both warring sides have suffered heavy losses in the combat at Barire and Km-50 villages in Lower Shabelle region, south of the war-torn Somalia. Al Shabaab militants have intensified attacks on Somali and AU troops in the region, as the country's federal government in hectic with the electoral process.
