South Africa: Abducted Baby Sought By Durban Central Police

press release

Police in Durban Central are searching for the one-month-old baby girl that was abducted during an alleged car hijacking incident in First Avenue opposite the shopping mall in Durban.

Today at about 11:45, the mother, her 8-year-old child and a baby were seated in the vehicle when two unknown armed men accosted them. They demanded the vehicle keys, forced the mother and son out of the vehicle and sped off in her Toyota Yaris with the one month old baby girl inside.

A case of car hijacking was opened at Durban Central police for investigation. The victims' vehicle was later recovered at the corner of Moodie and Donovan Roads in Montclair without the baby inside.

Police are urging the community members who witnessed the incident or who knows the whereabouts of the baby in the attached picture to urgently contact the nearest police. So far we appreciate the assistance from the community members who are helping in finding the baby. Our Crime Stop Call Centre can also be contacted on 08600 10111.
