South Africa: Accused Sentenced for Raping His Estranged Girlfriend

Potchefstroom — The 42-year-old Keolebogile Joel Phele was sentenced to ten years imprisonment by the Ganyesa Regional Court on Thursday, 16 March 2017 for rape.

Phele's sentencing came after he was found guilty for raping his 38-year-old estranged girlfriend. According to reports then, Phele found his estranged girlfriend walking with other women on the road at Bona Bona village in the evening on Sunday, 6 March 2016. He threatened the victim with a knife and took her into the bushes where he raped her.

The victim reported the matter to the police in Morokweng. Subsequent to a thorough investigation, the accused was arrested and has been in custody until his sentencing.
