ANC Members of Parliament cannot face disciplinary charges for voting in favour of the motion of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma says former president Kgalema Motlanthe. If he could, he would do so. Motlanthe, who served as secretary general and deputy president of the ANC, says this would not constitute an act of misconduct as stipulated in the party's constitution.

MPs are not "hirelings of the ANC" but public representatives who took an oath to be faithful to the Constitution.
