South Africa: Schoolboy, Accomplice Arrested for Fatal Stabbing of Another Pupil

A school pupil and another suspect have been arrested for the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old schoolboy in Newlands East, police said on Thursday.

The pupil from Newlands East Secondary School was stabbed to death outside the school premises on Wednesday, at about 15:00.

The incident took place at the soccer field in Pufaro Place, about 1.5km from the school.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala told News24 that a case of murder was being investigated by Newlands police.

The motive for the killing was still unknown, she said.

It was not immediately clear whether the suspected pupil attended the same school as the deceased.

"Two suspects, aged 18 and 21, were arrested for murder," she said.

They will appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court soon, Gwala said.
