Cameroon: MTN Elite One - Coton Sport Takes the Lead

Following the recent achievements of the Garoua team the National First Division Championship has taken another turn.

Tables have turned at the helm of the National First Division Championship. With ten playing days to go in the competition, the vice champions of Cameroon, Coton Sport of Garoua are now at the helm of the official classification table. Coton Sport and Eding Sport are now leading the national championship with 43 points each. Coton Sport however is on top as both teams are separated by one goal difference. Coton Sport now occupies the top position following four consecutive victories recorded in delayed matches. Coton Sport beat Colombe of Dja 2-1 in a delayed day 20 encounter in Garoua on Tuesday August 1, 2017. Coton Sport's goals were scored by Georges Bélamo 28th minute and Daouda Kamilou 52nd minute. In other delayed encounters, Coton Sport beat Dragon Yaounde 2-0, Lion Blessé 2-0 and drew with Feutcheu FC 2-2. Coton's recent achievements have brought some changes in the league table. APEJES of Mfou have now dropped to the third position with 40 points; three points behind Coton and Eding. As a result, the national championship has now taken another turn. Eding Sport of Lekié led the first round of the national football championship. Since the kick off of the second round, Eding Sport has not been able to produce valuable results to keep the club far ahead of the other teams. They have barely struggled to maintain their leadership position. The 25th playing day will be decisive as any defeat will hinder the chances of winning the national championship title. Meanwhile four teams are already swimming in relegation waters. They are Racing Bafoussam 28 points, Canon 22, Colombe 20 and Lion Blessé 18 points.
