South Africa: Cosatu North West Is Saddened By Death of Two Mineworkers At Kopanang Shaft 9 in Orkney

press release

Both workers have lost their lives and this bring the number to more than 11the worker who have lost their lives in the mining sector, including the other incidents at Tau Lekoa and Carletonville.

This deterioration of health and safety within the industry is deeply troubling. This is further evidence that the mining bosses are only focusing on making profit and are playing with workers lives.

We reiterate our call to DMR and mining bosses to intensify safety measures in the mining sector and we demand that there must be full investigation on the incident and action to be taken to those who are responsible.

COSATU conveys its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.
