Nigeria: Renewed Threats - Military Deploy Troops to Delta Over Avengers

There was panic in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West council area of Delta state on Monday as residents and leaders sighted military aircrafts and gunboats around their communities.

LEADERSHIP gathered that military aircrafts were seen hovering around the palace of the Gbaramatu paramount ruler in Oporoza, just as many gunboats were seen in different communities across the kingdom on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, military sources on monday evening told leadership on phone that there was no cause for alarm as the hardware seen were only meant for routine patrol of the Escravos and Trans-Forcados Pipeline and not any special operation targeting specific communities.

Speaking on the development, the spokesman of the Gbaramatu Council of Chiefs, Chief Godspower Gbenekama, expressed worry of what he described as fresh deployment of military equipment and personnel to Gbaramatu, a situation which he feared might negatively affect efforts currently being made to persuade the dreaded Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) to let down its guards.

However, explaining the development, the Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta, Commodore Ibrahim Dewu, said what had been misconstrued to be a military assault was a routine patrol exercise in the area, saying the hardware seen were not deployed to harass any community or any person.

"What they are speculating as military deployment is routine patrol along Escravos and the Trans Forcados Pipeline. Once we sense any security concern on that line, our men usually move in to patrol the area. Nobody is deploying any gunboat or jets to specific communities. It is a normal patrol", Dewu explained.

"FG's deployment of military action against Niger Delta Avengers,justified"-Delta Monarch

His Royal Majesty, Pere (Dr) Charles Ayemi-Botu (JP) also known as the Lion of the Niger from Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State yesterday described as 'justified" the military action deployed by the Federal Government to the creeks and waterways of the Niger Delta against the decision by the Militant group, the Niger Delta Avenger (NDA) to severe the ceasefire and threat to resume the bombing of Oil facilities and installations in the region.

King Charles Ayemi-Botu, who is also the former National Executive Chairman of the Traditional Rulers of Oil Mineral Producing Communities of Nigeria (TROMPCON) said though the deployment of military troops to the region is to protect oil facilities and installations, the deployment of military troops is sequel to series of warning by the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers and a coalition of nine Militant groups that prevailed on the Federal Government to abort the meeting as they have lost the credibility to represent the region in future dialogue with the government.

King Ayeni Botu, in a statement made available to newsmen in Yenagoa through email, stated that " Chief Clark has no right to accuse the federal government because the latter has moral obligation in ensuring peace and stability as well as the protection of oil installations in the region‎"

"PANDEF no longer has the mandate of the people of the Niger Delta Region since it was withdrawn by our Boys ( Agitators) in the creek on the 19th.. of August 2017 due to lack of credibility in the leadership of the body and was subsequently disbanded and the mandate was given to a new group under the distinguished leadership of HM Pere (Dr) Charles Ayemi-Botu (JP) OFR. "aka" Lion of d Niger.Paramount Ruler of Seimbiri Kingdom and former National Executive Chairman of the Traditional Rulers of Oil Mineral Producing Communities of Nigeria- TROMPCON."

"The security agents action was justified sequel to series of warning by the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers and a coalition of nine Militant groups that prevailed on the Federal Government to abort the meeting as they have lost the credibility to represent the region in future dialogue with the government. Chief Clark has no right to accuse the federal government because the latter has moral obligation in ensuring peace and stability as well as the protection of oil installations in the region which is the economic hub of the country,"

"Since the militants threatened to blow up oil installations, hence the meeting became a security risk. Secondly the publicity hype in the electronic and print media ran into millions of naira, and one would wonder where is their source of funding. Last year during the meeting with President Buhari on Nov.1st."

" it was self sponsored but this time the caliber of invitees included past and present Governors with their Deputies,Ministers, National Assembly members, etc it could aptly be described as political jamboree under the toga of the disbanded PANDEF and the federal government became concerned and Chief E.K. Clark who is crying wolf owes the people of the region where he scooped the millions of naira in hiring d Hotel Presidential as their spokesperson Anab Sara Igbe confirmed the constitution of the moribund PANDEF allows them to raise funds from oil companies, Interventionist Agencies etc. thus becoming a money making forum, whose leadership is a master of the game."

"At 91 years official, if Chief Clark who has serious health challenges that is aided left and right and one has to hold his hand before he cudn't sign a cheque and on August 4th. when he had a meeting with the then Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo, I learnt they used wheelbarrow to usher him to the hall, the big question is, is it out of senility or insatiable lust /greed for money that made him not to retire home peacefully and enjoy the billions of naira he illegally amassed, being the foster father of the ill fated fmr. President Goodluck Jonathan era ? "

"Chief Clark can't call the boys in the creek as laptop militants cause,if the boys stand before him he can't see them and secondly Chief Clark was not part of the dialogue group until some of our foot soldiers reported to him about 4 months after some of us had to take up the gauntlet in appealing to both the Federal Government and the Militants to sheathe their swords and embrace dialogue sequel to the U.S. Consulate General Mr. John F. Bray visited me in my Warri Palace Annex and had an hour closed door meeting and a joint press conference, calling on both Federal Govt."

"And the Avengers to sheathe their swords and embrace dialogue. Then chief Clark was hiding in his village at Kiagbodo for fear of being arrested by the EFCC as one of the proponents of Jonathan's second term tenure and the billions of naira doled out to establish the Edwin Kiagbodo Clark University cited in an already existing secondary school buildings built by the NDDC and the E.K.Clark Foundation in Yenagoa,"

"When the leader of Aaron Team B. Chief T.K.Ogoriba and two others, Hendrix Opukeme and Kennedy Orubebe sold out our mission and he capitalized on the Leeway and usurpingly and subtly made himself a co-chairman with HRM King Spiff and later became the sole convener and treasurer of the forum. The RNDA which is the striking force of the NDA split and renamed as the RNDA can't be laptop militants and if so let Clark produce who gave PANDEF the mandate before it became moribund ?"

"For the umpteenth time the Chief Clark leadership and structure, which is PANDEF is Disbanded and during the reconciliatory meeting in Wellington Hotel by Alaowei Bozimo who was the convener and T. K. Ogoriba announced that he represented Chief Clark cause he cudn't work and T.K.. Ogoriba informed us that Chief Clark has accepted to step aside but let PANDEF remain as the nomenclature and I vehemently disagreed and stated that the structure must go with Clark and the sole convener who also complained of financial constraints. we agreed to report back to our various groups and it became case sine die. "

"No human being in his normal senses except a senile human being like Clark who has no conscience and lacks respect for his king in Kiagbodo, will state that a renowned first class monarch of high repute and by the grace of God the first elected National Executive Chairman of Traditional Rulers of the nine Oil Producing States of Nigeria(TROMPCON) from 2003 to 2007, and took it to a glamorous height is not regarded by his people I leave the rest for posterity."

" Alternatively when Chief Clark was a commissioner of Education and later Finance 1973/ 1974 under Brigadier Ogbemudia in the defunct Midwest Region and illegally bought over 11 Cinema houses throughout the country, built the tallest house in Warri and had the sobriquet of the shortest man with the tallest building and others in GRA Apapa but were seized when General Murtala came to power and after the assassination of Gen. Murtala he wangled his way to recover them.He finally misled Jonathan to his waterloo."

"Even his present residence in Asokoro was fmr. Vice President's guest house Goodluck bought for him plus another edifce in Abuja.EFCC should take note.‎"
