Kenya: Nasa Puts Off Demos to Concentrate Efforts on People's Assembly

Nairobi — The National Super Alliance has indefinitely postponed protests that were planned for Friday as part of their push for electoral reform.

In a statement, Siaya Senator James Orengo said the protests had been called off due to the ongoing debate in various county assemblies seeking establishment of People's Assemblies.

"Due to the on-going debate in the county Assemblies for the creation of a People's Assembly to help Kenyans chart the way out of the electoral impasses in the country, the National Super Alliance wishes to notify its supporters that the peaceful protests for electoral justice that had been scheduled to take place in Nairobi tomorrow (Friday) have been postponed until further notice."

He said a new date for the peaceful protests would be announced in due course.

Before the postponement, the coalition had written to the Nairobi County Police Commander Japheth Koome informing him that its procession would be peaceful.
