Kenya: One Person Killed, 5 Injured As Matatu Crashes Into Nyeri Cafe

One person was killed and five others injured after a matatu crashed into a café at Ngangarithi in Nyeri Town.

The matatu was headed towards Mumbi Estate when its brakes allegedly failed and it rammed the café, killing a tailor on the spot.

TREATMENT

The tailor was repairing clothes in her shed when the matatu rammed into her.

Nyeri County Administration Police Commander Njue Njagi, who visited the scene, said that three people were seriously injured during the crash.

"Three people have been injured and have been rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. Unfortunately one person has died," Mr Njue said.

Two other people were later rushed to hospital with injuries but the status of their injuries were not immediately established.

The driver fled from the scene after the crash.
