Ethiopia: Celebrating International Human Rights Day in Ethiopia

column

Every year, on December 10, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is celebrated all over the world. Human rights are at the heart of the European Union's (EU) external action. This is why, when faced with violations of human rights, the EU raises human rights issues in its bilateral political dialogue and uses all instruments at its disposal. The EU funded projects in the field of civil society and human rights in partner countries, such as Ethiopia, aim to promote the rights and values enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The European Union's action on the international scene is guided by the principles which have inspired its creation, development and enlargement, and which it seeks to advance in the broader world. It endeavours to institute democracy, the rule of law, the universality of human rights and fundamental freedoms, respect for human dignity, equality, and respect as international legal norms.
