South Africa: Three Armed Robbery Syndicate Members Nabbed Along N1 South

In a relentless effort to deal with the serious and violent crimes in this Province, the Police in Mokopane outside Polokwane have made a major breakthrough after three member syndicate aged between 28 and 31 years were nabbed at Pienaarsrivier outside Bela-Bela.

These suspects are believed to be part of a crime syndicate which was terrorizing members of the community, especially motorists along the N1 South by robbing them after they got punctures or break downs. This happens especially during the night.

It is alleged that in the early hours of today at about 04:00 in Mokopane, the victims got stranded along the N1 South about 6 km from the weigh bridge and while they were sitting inside the taxi waiting for assistance, six unknown suspects emerged.

They broke the driver's window, pointed them with firearms, instructed them to lie down outside the car and robbed them of cell phones, clothes and cash before they fled the scene.

During the second incident which occurred on Monday,4 December 2017 in the early hours at about 01:30, the victims were travelling from Gauteng to Zimbabwe, driving a taxi and they got puncture along the N1 South next to the weigh bridge in the Mokopane Policing area.

When they were about to attend to the puncture, two suspects entered inside the taxi armed with firearms and knife, they ordered everybody to sleep and they further assaulted the driver and finally, they robbed the victims a variety of valuable items and fled the scene.

During these arrests, the following items were recovered:

* 26 cell phones, 2 Laptops and cash amount of R2 000.00.

The suspects will appear before the Mokopane Magistrates' Court soon.

The South African Police Service is hereby appealing to all the people who were traveling along the N1 South who became victims of this syndicate between November and December 2017, to come forward to identify their stolen items or they may contact Captain Mofya at 078 817 8012 or 0825658277.

Police investigations are still continuing.
