South Africa: Four-Year-Old Child Drowns in Pit While Playing With Friend

A four-year-old child has drowned after falling into a pit filled with water in Groutville, north of Durban, paramedic services said.

IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Paul Herbst told News24 that the four-year-old and another child were playing when the tragedy occurred.

"The child fell into the water and drowned. The other child, out of fear, ran into the home and hid under the bed."

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane confirmed the incident and said that an inquest docket had been opened at the KwaDukuza police station.
