South Africa: Cosatu Strongly Condemns the NPA for Mismanaging the Perjury Case of Emmanuel Masoka in the Moss Phakoe Murder Case

press release

The Congress of South African Trade Unions strongly condemns the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for continuing to mismanage the Moss Phakoe case and by flagrantly disrespecting the Phakoe Family. This follows NPA's decision to switch the date and ultimately postponing the perjury court case of Emanuel Masoka to the month of May without updating both COSATU and the Phakoe Family. The court case was supposed to take place today but was switched to yesterday without anyone being informed and it has since been postponed for the month of May 2018.

Emmanuel Masoka was a key state witness, who recanted his evidence in a case of the killing of Cde Moss Phakoe. His actions led to the release of Former Rustenburg Mayor Matthew Wolmarans and his bodyguard Enoch Matshaba from prison. Emmanuel Masoka has since been charged with perjury for making conflicting statements under oath.
