South Africa: Cosatu Members Willing to Drive Trains On Central Lines in Western Cape

press release

COSATU members are concerned about the commuters from Mitchell's Plain and Khayelitsha, who are suffering because of the termination of the services. The federation demands that the management of Metro Rail urgently engages with the drivers and our affiliate SATAWU for a solution. We already have members of COSATU who have made it clear that they are willing to drive ob Central lines. We need that service restored as soon as possible.

COSATU shares the demands of Untu whose strike has led to the closure of the Central lines, and believe it is their right to decide on an action of their union, within the parameters of the Labour Relations Act. Our members working at Metro Rail, who are members of Satawu will however now drive the trains on the Central line, as we believe different steps should be taken to solve the crisis.
