Maputo — Mozambique's National Elections Commission (CNE) has proposed to the government the date of 14 March for the run-off second round in the mayoral by-election in the northern city of Nampula, reports Monday's issue of the independent daily “O Pais”.
The first round, held on 24 January, did not produce an outright winner. Amisse Cololo, the candidate of the ruling Frelimo Party topped the poll, with 44.5 per cent of the votes, following by Paulo Vahanle, of the rebel movement Renamo, with 40.3 per cent. The remaining votes were divided among three other candidates.
