Africa: ECA to Renovate Africa Hall With U.S.$57 Million

The Economic Commission for Africa (UN-ECA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) signed an agreement marking the beginning of renovations to modernize Africa Hall, in ECA, for 57 million dollars.

Vera Songwe, ECA Executive Secretary and Hirut Zemene, state minister of Foreign Affairs, signed the agreement on April 13, 2018 to pave way for the renovation that will be delivered in 2021.

"The renovation would bring state-of-the-art technology to Africa Hall and ensure it serves more African citizens than before," said Songwe during the agreement signing ceremony.

Africa Hall was built between 1959 and 1961 and inaugurated by Emperor Haileselassie on 26 February 1961.
