South Africa: Cosatu Calls for an Urgent Settlement of a Bus Sector Wage Dispute

press release

The federation calls on the parties to find a fair negotiated settlement, as soon as possible, so the strike can be averted. We recommend that the difference between the parties be split, so the settlement should be 9% increase in wages this year. The companies make huge profits on the backs of the drivers and subsidies from government, and should treat the workers fairly.

Cosatu calls on bosses to understand should workers arrive at work late, we shall fight with any boss that holds them responsible for the transport crisis. Workers must be paid for a full working day, even if they arrive at work late due to the transport crisis. Cosatu also condemns Heron's silly comment of workers working flaxy time, as he has never seen a factory and a production line that requires everybody to be there at the same time. Cosatu calls for urgent engagements today, so the strike can be averted.
