South Africa: Cosatu and Num Held a Picket Against Mine Accidents At the Chamber of Mines

The Congress of South African Trade Unions and the National Union of Mineworkers held a picketing at the Chamber of Mines on May 10 to demand drastic action against the deteriorating mine safety standards in the country.

Since the beginning of the year the mining sector has seen more than 27 deaths. COSATU invites all workers to join this picket and make it clear to the Chamber of Mines that their insatiable greed creates widows and orphans .Workers sell their labour, not their lives and the mineworkers they kill and maim carry this economy on their backs.
