Tanzania: Unicef Backed Initiative Issues Birth Certificates to 2 Million Children

OVER two million under five children have been registered and issued with birth certificates through the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) implemented scaling up birth registration initiative.

UNICEF Education Officer Penina Sangiwa, speaking at the Commission for Science and Technology (COSTEC) and Human Development Innovation Fund (HDIF) organised Innovation Week, said: "We have registered over two million children under the age of five in Mara, Lindi, Mbeya and Songwe regions... the initiative is one of the innovations that have improved the lives of children." The five-year plan that started in 2015 is set to cover 11 regions with low rates of birth registrations.
