Ralekgetho — President Mokgweetsi Masisi Tuesday handed over a P1.5 million multifaceted project to Ralekgetho Primary School courtesy of Kiron Care Association.
The project, comprising a state-of-the-art administration block and two classrooms each with a capacity of 46 pupils, is part of government's commitment to enhance the quality of education that would in turn improve the economic landscape of the country.
President Masisi expressed appreciation to the association for responding to his appeal for sponsors for the project when he was still MP for the area.
Speaking at the same event held in Ralekgetho village, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and also Mahalapye East MP Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said education was pivotal to socio-economic development therefore it was imperative that a conducive environment be created.
Schools should be equipped with all necessities to ensure quality results that would in turn spill over to other spheres of life as well as other sectors of the economy, she said.
Ms Tshireletso also said education had the potential to eradicate poverty and to create wealth for the country and its citizens.
She spoke of the need for the nation to have confidence in the education system which would always get the lion's share of the budget to ensure high performance.
She said as the education system improved, it would create employment such as through infrastructure erection.
The assistant minister implored the Ralekgetho Primary School community to put the new facilities to good use as well as to take care of them.
Ms Tshireletso urged the school authorities to go the extra mile to ensure excellent Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE).
The school head, Ms Agneciah Matlho described the event as an important milestone in the school's history.
She said the project came at the right time when there was dire need for classrooms.
Ms Matlho said the school would show appreciation by producing excellent PSLE results and quality pupils who would in future enroll in top institutions eventually turning around the fortunes of the country.
President Masisi donated blankets to pupils, teachers, PTA members, national service participants working at the school, watchmen, VDC members and all public servants stationed at Ralekgetho.
A Standard Five pupil, Otshepheng Setharing, pocketed over P2 000 for reciting an impressive poem in honour of dignitaries who graced the occasion.
