The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei-Mensah, has said Phase II of the construction of Kumasi Kejetia Market will solve flooding and congestion challenges that face the Central Business District (CBD).
The minister, who spoke to the media after inspecting ongoing projects in the Ashanti region on Thursday, said Phase II of the project has incorporated the challenges of Phase I.
He said Phase I did not have enough parking space, thereby compelling most drivers to park around the market and surrounding areas.
That, he said, is the major cause of the congestion in the CBD.
"The current situation is such that, even when drivers are sacked from the CBD, they would not have any other place to park, thus authorities are constrained," he explained.
"To prevent flood, a drain will be constructed around Phase I of the project," Mr Osei-Mensah added.
The Minister also inspected the structural works of the Afari Military Hospital, which is about 99% complete.
They also visited the Maternity and Children Block Project of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
