Kenya: KAA Says Kisumu Airport Operational After Aircraft Crash Landed

Nairobi — The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) says the Kisumu International Airport is currently operational following an incident where a light aircraft crash-landed last night.

On its twitter account, the Authority further indicated that the two occupants of the aircraft are well after escaping unscathed.

It stated however that they "have been rushed to hospital for precautionary medical assessment."

it confirmed that the aircraft had an emergency landing at Kisumu Intl. Airport after suffering landing gear failure.

It's reported that the wheels of the plane had refused to eject and did many rounds within the lakeside city for almost an hour as the pilots tried to exhaust fuel so that they can crush land it.

Ambulances and fire engines were mobilized in readiness for the crush landing that happened shortly before 10 pm.

A resident, Mohammed Kombo who lives next to the airport reported that the plane made several rounds with a roaring sound.

"I saw the plane passing overhead several times and we wondered what was the problem."
