allAfrica.com, 31 December 2007
Kenyan blogger Daudi Were was at the opposition news conference in Nairobi on Monday.

The rally will change nothing...there shall be no change in Government.. ODM should realise this..They refused to give us a new constitution when they could have...now the same powers they sought to keep intact for themselves have been used against them..Poetic justice indeed...
ODM must also note that the contest was pretty even in numbers and they know this. It is not as if Kibaki has no supporters in Kenya... That they have shown restraint is a testament to the adage that one follows a leader who is most like oneself..
Odinga instigated a coup in 1982 and it is no surprise that he now wants violence as a solution...
Moi tried to kill the Kikuyu(literally) in 1997(with Ruto in Government) and he failed..Kikuyu were in the opposition and they prevailed.. Do not for a moment deceive yourselves that the Kikuyu will not say Enough and Retaliate...
Raila did not speak up for the Kikuyu then and the Kikuyu are not surprised that he is preaching violence now
Reach out to Kibaki bwana Raila and a compromise may be found..fail to do this and the result is a foregone conclusion....The Kikuyu will prevail.
This is the problem with Kenya. Some of the comments on this chat are clearly what is wrong about the country. There is really no problem between the Kikuyus, the Luos, the Luhyas, the Kalenjins, etc. The average Ouma, kamau, mutiso, Simiyu, and Mohhamed suffers in Kenya every day, paying school fees and buying sugar and going to hospitals with no medicine. In deed, the average Ouma, kamau, mutiso, Simiyu, and Mohhamed die every day from poverty and sickness. They travel to same work places in the same matatu, and it is their money politicians steal and enrich themselves. When Kibaki and Odinga have a fight, it is this average Ouma, kamau, mutiso, Simiyu, and Mohhamed they use, because they (kibaki and Odinga) live in comfortable spacious houses where there is plenty of food and watewr and security. So it is important that the average Ouma, kamau, mutiso, Simiyu, and Mohhamed should get in the streets and kill each other. When they do so, Kamau kills ouma, who is actually the nurse at the hospital where Kamau and Mutiso and Rotich take their children. When they Kill Kamau he turns out to be the matatu driver who get them to work. The Rotich they killed turns out to be a petrol station owner, who all these average people cannot live without. Now, the crisis happening in Kenya today is going to consume the average Ouma, kamau, mutiso, Simiyu, and Mohhamed and their children. Odinga and Kibaki will be living large still in their mansions, in a world where hospital without medicine, neighbourhoods without water, and matatu transpportation are quite a foreigh experience. When their children and wives get sick, both Kibaki and Odinga will take the same flight--first class to London for treatment, and that at the expense of that little Kamau and that little Auma and that poor fatima who is going to die tomorrow from Malaria. Now then, the idiots are the average Ouma, kamau, mutiso, Simiyu, Rotich and Mohhamed who don't realize Raila and Kibaki are really brothers--rich, comfortable, unsuffering, and unlikely to be affected by the ongoing skirmishes going on in Kenya. I am a Kenyan who knows Kibaki riiged the election. I am a Kenyan who knows Raila would be the next president, but he will now have to work harder to get the respect and trust from ALL kenyans, and that respect and trust is being quickly eroded as his side of the party appears to be more interested in the violence, and he appears to be reluctant to speak up. Yes, it is up to the average Ouma, kamau, mutiso, Simiyu, Rotich and Mohhamed to know wea re the grass that suffers, and that wea re the pepople most likely to stop it. NOW!

Decide NOW!
I think I have an idea, Kenya should go majimbo, each province a sovereign state so that Kibaki remains president of central province of Kenya.
This is exactly the kind of narrow minded, selfish, naive and idiotic kind of reasoning that has brought us to this kind of situation-blaming certain individuals for inciting the people of this country gets us nowhere. This is because we'll just go back and forth about it. The kind of leadership where the government is so un strategic with the way its dealing with the public leads to lack of confidence from the people and the result is the people taking out their frustration on each other. thats exactly what is happening now. the issues raised by the two opposing sides prior to the announcement of the results were never addressed and the people felt that the election was not free and fair thats why people are fighting simply because they feel their rights have been violated. He the claims of rigging are true them the government did a lousy job becaue it war done in a manner that a brain dead monkey can see it clearly. the next step is the government be seen to do something about it. e.g initiate dialoge
Going by what you have written, will i be wrong to guess that you are kikuyu? Brother or sister, Its time we all agreed in black and white that we are talking of the robber and the robbed. Fullstop! However owing to what is hapening currently, i wish to state that it could be of paramount importance if our leaders realised that it's the common man who voted them that is suffering. How i wish what is happening were a dream? How i wish we dint have a kivuitu commissioning this election? How i wish i could be proved wrong to suggest that all africans are the same irrespective of the number of certificates they may be keeping? Now we are seeing people and businesses dying not because we dint vote democraticaly, but because one stupid ECK chairman went to sleep and forgot about his job.Only to wake up after giving our country to the devil and then shout..."sorry i was under pressure!" What a joke! My fear is that kenya will never be the same again. Lets forget where we come from and pray that peace may prevail in our beloved country.
The mass protest called for on Thursday has been declared illegal by the government. From what we witnessed on 30th December in terms of police presence in the city, we can expect that the protest will not take place even on Thursday. Which begs the question: how long will the city remain inaccessible and business paralyzed? Can our economy afford all the work hours lost? If I was Raila, I would continue to call for a protest every day for however long it takes for the government to find it necessary to enable the masses to carry out peaceful protests as an alternative to the violent protests we are witnessing. Could it be possible that the government fears that the farcical swearing in of Mwai Kibaki as president could have set a dangerous precedent for presidents to be sworn into office without following due process? Going by the statement issued by our president as his new year's message, it seems that re-visiting the irregularities in the vote counting process is not an option he is willing to consider in the interests of preserving democracy in our country. What our government does not understand is that Kenyans have lost confidence in the democracy of our country, this is the reason for all the bloodshed. The message that has been communicated to the electorate by the hurried swearing in of President Kibaki without consideration of significant irregularities in the vote counting process is that voting is a useless exercise. Let us unite in calling on our president to abandon the attitude of impunity that his government is infamous for, humble himself before the people of Kenya and give them what they are yearning for. AN EXPEDITIOUS, INDEPENDENT, TRANSPARENT AND FAIR TALLYING OF THE PRESIDENTIAL VOTES AND AN UNDERTAKING TO RESIGN FROM OFFICE SHOULD HE BE FOUND TO HAVE LOST. Our country is greater than all of us hence its democratic processes must be safeguarded without fear or favour.
Obviously, the demands for power sharing have not been taken to heart by Kenya's leadership. The same thing happened in Liberia in the late 1970's and the country finally collapsed into anarchy and complete diaster. Africans throughout the continent have this problem as well as the ruling classes in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and many other countries. It's essentially the same in Haiti. Sooner or later the whole scheme busrts at the seems and all of the penned up frustration brought about by deprivation and a lack of opportunity erupts and the whole ballon explodes, compromising the very essence of the society that people long to be a part of. It was the same in America during the sixties. The riots were well founded, justified, and understood by all who knew the history of blacks in the United States. Unfortunately, in the case of Kenya, the capacity to mount a combined government and corporate rescue response to all of the turmoil as it occured in America does not exist. Kenyans will be hard pressed to put out the fires because the leadership has yet to realize that a president must administer to all of the subjects in a fashion that provides opporunity for everyone who is willing to work for it. The presidency is not a fifedom or a kingdom, and nepotism will always be challeneged as long as people are alert to its existence. The sad but necessary part about all of the turmoil is the you get no harvest without plowing up the ground. In the case of Kenya, one ethnic group rule since independence is being challenged and this time its for real. The election was just the straw that broke the camels back. It is timeto get a new camel....a new way of growing and developing kenya's society. My hat is off to those who suffer regardless of their ethnicity, there is pain in the process of change and loss of life is an unfortunate but real part of it. But japan survived the hydrogen bomb and Kenya will survive the process of overdue transition from a fifedom to a democracy.

I believe that people are capable of thinking twice. We have all seen what Laila party is capable of doing. It is full of evil a party of hooligans. Kenya deserves peace and a God fearing leader. Any leader who calls for a bun of revival is from the devil himself. Kenya is christian country and we belief that the hand of God is there and will prevail. Violence is a way to victory. Going to South Africa and seek witchcraft will not make you the leader. The devil only lies he is a lier and a father of lies. He is the author of confusion and we will fight him spiritually and continue to refuse to be moved backwards. Just see how kenya has progressed. Dear Kenyans,i urge you to focus on God only. We all want peace and respect our president. And remember what ever God has blessed you cannot curse. May God almighty bless our nation and our president.
Thank you.
Paul Awori
Let me tell you that Kibaki is the next dictator Idi Amin. Without even inviting international communities to witness his stolen victor. He is real dictator. We have eyes to see and ears to hear. It was real rigging and I wonder how Kenya is going to be the next days.
You are an ignoramus. You certainly did not know Idi Amin. He never had to rig. He overthrew the Ugandan government. Does that remind you of Raila? Indeed dictatorship goes with thorax and i leave it to you to decide on who has more thorax between Raila and Kibaki...
Sure killing isnt the answer but has it ever come to your mind that cheating has consequences too. Unfortunately it the grass that suffers when two elephants mate.
Please please please, it's not only Raila's party which has been involved in the mayhem experienced in the country. Everyone was taken by surprise by the sudden announcement that Kibaki had won the presidency when it was widely known by everyone including PNU adherents that Kibaki would lose. That announcement triggered the lawlessness which is a favourite part of human nature when there's uncertainty in the nation. By all means, Raila should not be blamed at all. The actual cuprit of the whole demonic situation is Kibaki and his henchmen.
i will not allow my right thinking self take either side in this dispute... These two shallow and uncompromising men have brought us to the edge of Disaster..They both worked hard to ensure that a new constitution was not born in 2005 and Kenya burns because of it..
We suffer coz none was willing to compromise.. They both wanted the Presidency with the powers Moi had and so the nation totters towards war...
Raila and Kibaki have failed us.. we may have voted for either or none of them but that is immaterial...As a Kenyan i cannot fail to see that both sides padded their results and anyone who refutes this is being economical with the truth..
They must sit down and give us what we yearn for...a new constitution so that it is never again so divisive on who heads the nation... Power must be shared...
They both don't want it coz they desire to rule over us as Kings...
Do not shut your eyes to the reality... both men have and are continuing to let us down...
It is a sad day for Kenya...
I wonder why you keep on relating the filed constitution to a rigged election. Moi handed over power to kibaki with the old constitution; so your logic don't add up. In any case, it is Kibaki who wanted to give Kenyans a constitution they had not asked for. Raila saved the day for us. What we are discovering about Emilio is a man we thought we knew so well but it appears there is a side that might have skipped us. It may be easy to praise your tribe but if you are in Rift Valley, you may change your mind. The presidency is not worth the destruction and killing that has been visited on your tribesmen. If you guys are happy with it, so be it. Remember we were in the same boat you are in now some years back; we worshipped Moi blindly and thought that power would never leave kamatusa. It was all an illusion. We defended it for Moi and his cronies and got nothing in return. I can only symphatize with your situation. I know you will realize your mistake in 2012 if re-run will not come sooner than you expect.
I don't care if the Mass Protest is legal or illegal, we Kenyans are tired of the Kibaki's rule. Only Kikuyu's have benefited from his government and all of the major business in the city belong to either relatives of Kibaki or Kikuyus. Poeple from 6 Provinces in Kenya demand a difference. Only two Provinces in Kenya cannot elect a President. The elections were fully rigged and Kibaki and electrocal commision should be ashamed. This is supposed to be a democratic country but it is turning out to be Hitler in charge. Give every Kenyans a chance. Raila Rules and I support the Protest. If they cannot recount the votes then there should be another elections. Kibaki is past his age of leading acountry, I assume more the 75, he has had a heart attack and he is aging, let him retire and let somebody else lead. Also we would like a President from a different tribe to see if he can make a difference. Kibaki has done nothing in his 5 year tenure as President. I am ashamed to call him so.
Sweet Sherry. You are an idiot of the highest calibre. It's mesmerizing to read of your infant logic. Kibaki is president, Raila is sad and people are dying. those are the facts. What if you voted for Raila and you burnt alive in a church, would that make you happy? both candidates garned the 25% of atleast five provinces and were elected in their own contituences.about the rigging, only the people present can truly say.about the business in nairobi, the last time i checked that was not the situation.my luo cousin owns a store in the NBD.honey, work hard for your own stuff.none of the leaders cares for you at a personal level.you are implying that if it not raila then evrything is a fault and should be shunned.shindwe!.
Honestly without bias to either side that protest will be used as an excuse for houligans to loot and destroy shops in the CBD. I'm sick and tired of hearing more deaths should you wait till SOMEONE YOU KNOW DIE'S so that you understand the implications of hastily made decisions? We need a strategic leader who can restore peace in this country
Dear Jaromogi/Odiga. You have called your opposition to cause trouble are you going to provide a shelter for them? Kibera, Mathare and even their own home town Kisumu they have foolishly destroyed. The only best option for them is to park and go back home (Kisumu). Are you all confused of mad?. Who want a party of lunacy. I think it is the time for odiga party to lay down like an envelope and accept defeat. Try next time maybe you will manage to confuse people by then if they forget what they have seen so far.
Please, please, please. Kibaki lost an election. He needs to open up peacely for someone else. If he continues he will face the justice in the Hague with all his corrupt guys. Life is larger than Kibaki. He has lived his. At 75 and sick, he doesn't have that many years to go. Let Raila take up the seat. However, all the loopholes needs to be covered to avoid what happened in the future. For example, ECK, Police, Armed forces officials should be confirmed by the parliament etc.
I wonder what Raila promised his supporters he would do for them once he is president that is so special that they are ready to kill innocent people to put Raila in the president's seat. Did he cheat you he would get you to heaven so you will be happy ever after?
Raila must be stopped before he destroys Kenya.
Mr. Awori, Please wake up! It is this kind of uninformed attitude that has led us to where we are today. Blame the victim? Kibaki is the culprit here and every impartial person not blinded by prejudice can see that. An electional is like a job application and the people are the appointers, they choose who to give the job and there are no shortcuts. You loose, you gracefully accept defeat, you don't try to bend the rules, employing some Mafia tactics, training guns at people here, bribing others there, etc. What the old cows Kibabi and Kivuitu show is that they do not respect the voices of the Kenyan people. The crime they have perpetrated is high treason. This is so shameless not only for Kenya but for the whole of Africa and to think that this is committed by elders at the twilight of their lives! What God hates more than anything else is lies and deceit and this man has the audacity to hold a Bible and sware to God when he knows full well he is lying!
"Guevarra Castro Chavez" Odinga should rein in his bloody commandos. He should use the lawful means to air his grievances, and not to hold the whole country at ransom bringing death wherever he and his brothers go. This is the type of governance he advocates - at present, and in the past supported by his "red" advisors - violence and disrespect for human life
Sorry, that started with Kenyatta & I'm sorry but Kibaki carried it forward so in order for peace to prevail blood has to be shed. Ever wondered why America is such a great country? Read their history.

The thing is killing of innocent people is wrong, what Kenyans should understand is that everyone has a right to vote for whomever they want. If people want to fight they should take it to the right people, sometimes freedom comes with a higher price. We all grew up as brothers and sisters and it didn't matter what tribe one was, calling each other names won't work, just tell the truth, let him step down, we don't want more people dying, we are all family.
I wonder how Mr. Raila Odinga can be a leader the way he dues not care about the Kenyan citizens. He just don't care about people are killed. Its not only ODM who is wrong. The whole issue started between two politicians and now we are close to a civil war.
WHY. STOP ALL THE KILLING> PLEASE FELLOW KENYAN, DON'T MESS UP YOUR COUNTY BECAUSE OF TWO RICH POLITICIANS. THEY ARE BOTH NOT WORTH IT.
I hope the situation in Kenya does not get to a point of ethenic violence that is going to push our nation to the blink of destruction. It is not about tribal wars, which many haven't realised yet, it is about the welfare of our nation. Our leaders need to have dialogue and find a solution to the political stalemate. Whatever happened to our pride, we have done so well since independence and many nations around us envied our success. It is time to think about Kenya not Kibaki or Raila, it is the future of our nation and our children. The common citizen is suffering, the rich and powerful will leave the country because they can afford it, the people being killed are the regular poor citizens, and the gangs that are destroying our nation are the usual thugs that get paid by politicians to cause havoc. Politics is about dialogue and good leardership should be the key to end this mess from both sides, Raila and Kibaki need to find a way forward for the nation by demonstarting their nationalism with peace and compromise. Chaboyd.
it is not about tribal wars. No. It is about the rights of the majority of the people who voted for the democracy which Raila told Kenyans would achieve during his presidency. For Raila to agree on a negotiated agreement when Kibaki is still clinging on the presidency is a betrayal to the Kenyan people. To all intents and purposes Kibaki has thrown common decency through the window in his blantant occupancy of State House. It is therefore important for Raila to continue with the pressure he is putting on the government because historically the medicine for oppression is pressure. Look at our own independence and liberation of African nations from the yoke of colonialism, it is prssure which freed us. It is very unfortunate men, women, and children are dying, however, it is not Raila who is causing these deaths and destruction of property it is the illegal government of Kibaki because they have the machinery to stop the mayhem and listen to the leader who Kenyans voted for
The majority of Kenyans did not vote for Raila. They voted for Kibaki and the other presidential candidates. And if elections were repeated today you can be sure Kibaki would get many more votes and Raila would lose. There is evidence that Raila incited hatred against the Kikuyu during his campaign speeches. You should stop using disrespective language towards Kibaki who everyone knows has been one of the few gentlemen in Kenyan politics. Kibaki is the people's president. Raila is not fit to be a president as he has shown to be a leader unto death and destruction. Raila is only a power hungry maniac who is a danger to the public and Kenyans will be wise to kick him out of politics then charge him with genocide. Eventually Raila will burn in hell forever for spilling innocent blood to satisfy his personal craving for power.
