Sierra Leone: Fighting for Citizenship Right - Ayoub Threatens Hungry Strike
Concord Times (Freetown), 31 August 2010
Just few days after calling on the Sierra Leonean authorities to shrug-off what he referred to as nationality prejudice and grant full citizenship right to all individuals born and raised in the country, business entrepreneur and philanthropist, Yasser Ayoub, has threatened to go on hunger strike should their call continues to be ignored by the State.

It is time for the authority in Sierra Leone to consider those who were born in Sierra Leone. The Ayoub case in question need urgent attention from the authority. He was born in the country and therefore he has every right to be a citizen. Countries like UK, USA, Canada, Australia to name just a few are giving citizenship to individual who are not even born in those countries. It is time for Sierra Leone to wake up and act like other develop countries. The Lebanese who are born in Sierra Leone has every right to become citizen. If we need to develop Sierra Leone we need to encourage other national to join us in moving our country forward. Do away with corruption for now and do the right thing for the development of our country. Mr. Koroma it is time for you to act and do the right thing for your fellow Sierra Leonean. God bless you all. Tamba Sylvester Yondah
Danbo, the case of Nasser Ayoub have created some concerns in the country. Before we act,we as Sierra Leoneans must study the idea and we must employ all the technicalities before we accept the issue at hand.If for sure Nasser Ayoub's Father is Dr. Soko Tamba, then he needs not to worry because his Father will apply for his citizenship.Because all children born to Sierra Leonean Fathers are Sierra leoneans. If really he wants to fight his case,he has to carry the name Nasser Tamba and Nasser Ayoub.
Jamil Mohamed almost bought Sierra Leone under the APC of Siaka Steven and Joseph Momoh.Eventhough,he was not qualify to get a Sierra Leonean citizenship at the time but he had more rights than even the citizens of Sierra Leone.Every country in the world has it's own laws.Comparing Lovely Sierra Leone to that of America and Britain, will do no justice for Sierra Leone. America gives you a Green Card and they tell you after every six months you must go back to America and update, why?
Sierra Leoneans have been very flexible to Lebanese in so many ways.I'm talking about Nasser Tamba but those talking of citizenship, when infact they know their parents came from Lebanon in the 1940/50s.Such people dancing around for a Sierra Leonean citizenship is just a mere joke to me.No Sierra Leone in Lebanon will get a Lebanese citizenship. We need a national debate on this issue.
I wonder why Yassar Ayoub has to go all that far to gain Sierra Leonean citizenship. I suspect a hidden agenda. And the fact that must not be lost on all of us is that there are lots of ill-motivated people out there who are bent on hurting others and causing so much trouble in the world. Whether they carry out their intent or not, they end up soiling the good image of the country of their citizenship. So I for one is against granting automatic citizenship to those who have sympathy or link to terrorit groups. And I'll encourage the Sierra Leone government not to give in to any pressure and to weed out all those who want to use our country for their evil intentions. They have no place in our society. We;re a peace loving people and we only welcome peace lovers.

Foday B Fofanah, you are absolutely Right. Move studies needed to be done accurately in other for this individual to obtain any Sierra Leone citizenship. These were some of the mistakes that we "Truely Sierra Leoneans" made during the time of the sixties and the seventies; and now, we are seriously paying the consequencies for the bad decissions that we made during those days. The Sierra Leone Government Need Not to bow down under any pressures concerning any thing that many come back and hurt us "Sierra Leoneans". I believe that Sierra Leone is now mature and well a structural country; and so, she must behave as one. That's, she must look after her children properly without any outside destructions.
