For decades to come, perhaps for 50 years, the people of our oil producing region will be saddled with the after effect of this criminal degradation of their environment. By then there will be nomore oil and up till now, they have seen little to none of their oil money.Their means of livelihood have been permnently destroyed.Carcinoma and teratogenesis will be rampant for years to come. The so called amnesty offered to the so called militants of the N'Delta is an insult. They aren't criminal after all.Amnesty is for criminals.Who is the criminal in this saga of the Niger Delta and its oil wealth that has become a curse rather than a blessing to us all? General Yakubu Gowon and Chief Awolowo invaded Biafra because of the oil wealth of the Niger Delta.Shell BP bank-rolled the war for them. That war cost the lives of over 3 million innocent Igbos (see Justice Oputa Chukwu- dife's Commision Report and Prof.Chinua Achebe's,'There Was a Country'). It about time States and Communities that have oil in their territories be allowed to have a 100% control of their God given natural resources. But before then there must be a 5 to 10 years moratorium on oil exploration in the Niger Delta. Those billion of dollars of our stolen oil monies by Abdulsalami,Buhari,IBB,OBJ and their cronies must be recovered so that in the event of an interrupted oil production, the nation can survive with that.
