I am not sure if Ugandans are part of the peacekeeping mission in the DRC.
It might take more generations for the DRC to be broken into smaller states
as your article has pointed out just to please the US. The Congolese
people's patriotism is a legendary. If there is one thing the Congolese
agree upon is their unity as a people, regardless of their political
allegiance. And for many years they have proven to the world that despite
unnecessary predatory wars being imposed on them, they always come together
in defense of their national pride. They know that national integrity is
not negotiable. Land is the greatest asset they have and they will do all
it takes to defend it. We've got to remember that the DRC is under arms
embargo since 1991/1992. Once a strong leadership takes over in the DRC and
both Museveni, Kagame and to some extent Eduardo Santos of Angola are no
longer in power, the DRC will emerge as a superpower in the Great Lakes
region and will lead and command respect again. The West will have no
choice but to do business again with the Congo. Countries like Rwanda and
Uganda don't won't mean much to the West and the US in particular once
there is peace in Somalia and a strong leadership in the DRC, a leadership
capable of securing the nation's borders and resources and able to create
an environment for national, regional and international businesses. Real
peace in the Congo means the end of Rwanda and Uganda military influence
in the region.
